New for 2013 from Whiting Farms, the awesome Whiting Cochin Hen Cape in 10 colours Greenwell’s, Furnace, Black with more colours arriving throughout 2014. The largest of the hen capes we purchase from Whiting Farms, large soft hackles that will tie flies in the approx. range of #16 to #8 like all capes you get a very good range of sizes!! Uses:- Spiders, all Wet Flies, Lures and Salmon and Sea Trout Flies.

    This cape was O.K. I suppose but the feathers were not true spade shapes as I would have expected in a good quality hen.Hence my not recommend as I bought them to tie small Clydestyle wets.

    Nigel's response:The 4b Hen Cape represents excellent value for money giving large densely hackled capes with quite a long hackle for a hen cape that is perfect for all types of wet fly including north country spider style and Clyde style wets. Genetic hens are reared to produce longer hackle so you get more flies per hackle. The different breeds of hen birds will also produce different hackle profiles but this has nothing to do with the quality of the cape. If you require a small rounded hackle you would be better looking at none genetic options like the Indian Hen capes which will give a round short hackle but saying that the genetic hen capes will produce the same hackle style when tied in but with more flies per hackle.     Been tying for some 20 years and this was one of the best Greenwell capes I have seen in a long time. Beautiful soft well marked feathers and great value for money. Fantastic quality and service as always from Lakeland.
